It is a common misunderstanding that childhood is carefree and only adulthood is beset with problems. In the United States alone 1 in 10 children and adolescents suffer from a less than perfect childhood. These children struggle with mental illnesses that are severe enough to impair and yet less than 1 out of 5 of them receive the necessary treatment.
Society has only comparatively recently acknowledged that children are as vulnerable to mental and emotional disorders as their parents.

It is now a known thing that an alarming number of children, written off as badly behaved or delinquent, are in need of treatment.

The significance of early treatment for childhood disorders cannot be over-emphasized. A significant number of disorders can be suitably treated and controlled if diagnosed early enough. Early diagnosis improves chances for a positive outcome and prognosis and awareness of the problem allows all concerned to approach the situation in an appropriate way.

One of the biggest stumbling blocks to early treatment for children troubled by childhood disorders are the parents. Often guilt stops a parent from facing facts regarding their child's situation. They tend to assume all responsibility for the problem but this is hardly ever true. Childhood disorders are caused by a combination of genetic, psychological, biological and environmental factors.

It is crucial that parents put aside any discomfort or guilt they may feel to face the problem. This recognition that a problem exists will open the way to an adequate solution.

Parents should look out for talk of suicide, prolonged feelings of intense tension and anxiety, changes in eating and sleeping, atypical thoughts and speech, withdrawal, loss of interest or energy and extreme changes in mood and behavior. If the child often complains of physical ailments that seem to have no cause have this checked out.

There are a wide number of effective therapies and treatments for childhood disorders so don't let your child suffer longer than they have to.

My son has been under counseling for anger for 2 years now. He is currently having rages and verbally expressinh harm to his-self and others. his counselor suggested emmediate help for bi-polar. Not to be confused with ODD. Meaning in children bi-polar symptoms are ODD and should only be medicated as a bipolar diagnosis. My sons father is not diagnosed but has bi-polar as well as my father. It is hereditary in the family. The biggest issue in my sons case is that i am divocred and my ex brain washed our son into hating me and his siblings/counselor/cps/and any one that tries to help me with him.
