WHY DO PEOPLE USE GAMMA HYDROXYBUTYRATE?
Initially, body builders were found to sometimes use the compound Gamma Hydroxybutyrate to stimulate growth of their muscles. In the past few years, it is gaining popularity among partygoers and club kids as a recreational drug.
The drug Gamma Hydroxybutyrate is made from a chemical often used for cleaning electrical circuit boards. It can be found as clear liquid, tablet, capsule or white powdery form.
It is odorless and has almost no taste. The “designer” drug may be used along with other drugs like Ecstasy. Those who have used it say that it causes a relaxed state of mind. Effects are felt within 5 to 20 minutes of ingesting it, and its effects may last for up to four hours or so.
The Food and Drug Administration banned gamma Hydroxybutyrate in 1990 after 57 cases of illness (from vomiting and nausea to respiratory problems, comas and seizures) induced by the drug were reported to emergency rooms and poison control centers. Only under supervision of a physician is the use of the drug permitted.
People who use Gamma Hydroxybutyrate suffer grave risk of liver failure, vomiting, potentially fatal respiratory problems, seizures, tremors and even coma.
This drug is also reported to have been used in instances of date rape. Since Gamma Hydroxybutyrate is both tasteless and odorless, someone can slip it into your drink without your detecting anything.
