HELP! My son is 37 years old and he refuses to get a job! He lives with my husband and myself for a year. My son and I moved here about a year ago from the north, I was recently remarried. My son quit his job and refused to be up north without me... My son sleeps most of the day and plays video games and watches TV at night. He has panic attacks and very shy and looks like a cave man! People, mainly men make fun of him, he says he works for me at home but he does very LITTLE work here at home! He blames me, his mother for EVERYTHING! I offered to pay for his classes if he would go back to college, he barely speaks and says he is our grounds keeper. He takes alot of sleeping pills and several over the counter drugs EVERY day. I asked him a hundred times when is he getting a job, he says he is our grounds keeper or that he is retired! (from what, I do not know. He talks to animals, acts wierd and looks really scary, I took him to my doctor and she said for him to join a bowling team. He is antisocial and very shy, he says he is a loner. I have seen him in panic attacks and if you yell at him he stops everything and tunes you out and acts retarted, sorry for that word but he does. I need to do an intervention of some type, what can I do? He is not normal, he wears wierd things on his head etc... he looks very scary! I am ill and so is my husband, he is supose to be helping us but he only helps when he wants to. I want him to get a job even if it is part time or get on SSI. I need a diagnosis he has many things wrong with him that is on the SSI list. What can I do to help him. He will be on the street when we die and we want him out of the house and working. No, I can not kick him out, he is like a child, he can not really care for himself without my supervision. I think he cracked or something. He does NOT drinkl or do drugs EXCEPT for the over the counter sleeping pills etc... Help. I want to make an appointment to see and talk to a specialist, how do I get him there? He says nothing is wrong with him and denies his panic attacks etc... I am worried sick. I do not want him living on the street but that is where he is headed! HELP me ASAP, please! Your son sounds like he needs counseling. If he wont let you help him you may have to kick him out to get him help. That maybe the only way he will let you. For his sake you may have to show tough love. If not I am afraid things may get worse for him and for you and your husband. Your son shows classic mental problems that need to be addressed immediately. before he worsens and harm himself or someone else.
